The 2014 season at the Mountain Playhouse, Jennerstown, opened Tuesday night with a bang. The show was "The Marvelous Wonderettes."

Four talented women thrilled the audience. The music was over the top.

What a wonderful treasure we have here at the playhouse. If you were there, I think you feel the same way I do.

If you weren't there, get a ticket as soon as you can. Seats are going to go fast.

"The Marvelous Wonderettes" will only be here until Sunday.

When Anne Behr, Alex Kidder, Brittney Morello and Sara Sawyer come back next season to do the music of the '40s, I'll be there.

One of the appeals of summer stock, red barn theaters is their location in the tree-greened countryside, and Mountain Playhouse, perched alongside a small lake in the Laurel Highlands, inhabits a picturesque setting. But with the flora comes the fauna, and in the days before air conditioning, when the playhouse wasn’t tightly insulated, bats were periodic visitors inside the theater.
